Vineyards of the Surrey Hills’
Summer Spectacular weekend
Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25, 2023

To celebrate English Wine Week 2023, Vineyards of the Surrey Hills hosted our very first Summer Spectacular weekend on Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25.

All five of our vineyards - Albury, Chilworth Manor, Denbies, Greyfriars and High Clandon - showcased their unique offering across a scorching weekend of special events.

  • Greyfriars Vineyard got the summer vibes flowing with an Open Cellar event at their Monkshatch Winery & Cave site. It was a chance to meet the Greyfriars team, enjoy delicious food from Towpath Kitchen and sip wines from the pop-up amphitheatre bar while relaxing to jazz and swing music by Jazz and the Tonics. Greyfriars’ owner, Mike Wagstaff, also held VoSH wine masterclasses in the winery.

  • High Clandon’s Summer Spectacular open days previewed their ever-popular summer event, Art & Sculptures in the Vineyard, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and officially launches on Sunday July 2. Effervescent owners, Sibylla and Bruce, also hosted their Battle of Waterloo Taste-off featuring VoSH English sparkling wines vs marque Champagne – with some guests boldly tackling sabrage, the Napoleonic flourish to remove a Champagne cork.

  • At Chilworth Manor Vineyard, their vineyard talks included a Vineyards of the Surrey Hills wine tasting with canapés on the historic manor’s beautiful terrace. The talks themselves showcased the progress made at Chilworth Manor Vineyard, including the newly installed frost protection system, new tasting barn (expected to open in 2024) and new plantings.

  • Denbies Wine Estate’s Saturday guests enjoyed Secret Vineyard Tours and a Summer Spectacular Wine Train & Wine Library Menu Pairing, while Sunday was a day for relaxing with local producers and Surrey Hills wine tasting on the lawn with live music.

  • The highlight of Albury Organic Vineyard’s weekend was the sold-out Albury Wine Festival on Sunday June 25, where visitors relaxed with wine tasting, live music, a pop-up Albury wine bar and local artisan food. The day also featured Surrey Hills wine-tasting masterclasses with John Mobbs of Great British Wine, which showcased the variety and quality of Vineyards of the Surrey Hills wines.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who supported, championed and visited Vineyards of the Surrey Hills during English Wine Week and our Summer Spectacular weekend.

Of course, there’s plenty of summer left and the Vineyards of the Surrey Hills aren’t finished there!
